Redevelopment Gildenhuis Beveren wins Prijs Inspirerend Sociaal Wonen 2016!

Gildenhuis Beveren was awarded the Prize 'Inspirerend Sociaal Wonen' ('Inspiring Social Housing'). The prize, an initiative of the Association of Flemish Social Housing Societies, celebrates the most inspiring projec. For the jury members, the project is strengthening as it increases the (residential) quality of the existing environment, with the combination of support functions for the community

Gildenhuis Beveren consists of a concrete grid that structures the facade and gives rhythm. Through the connection of the public domain along and through the building with the green interior area, META maximizes the inside-out relationship and the interaction with the passenger. By locating a few entries in the doorstep through the building, the visitor is invited to discover this new circulation axis and the backend domain. On the floors are 49 residential units, of which 28 are social apartments and 21 private homes.

Björn Mallants, director VVH, in the article in the newspaper De Standaard of Friday 29 January 2016:

"The development of both social housing and private homes without significant distinction in size and view is an inspirational example of mixed developments."

Karin Beeldens, director of the Social Housing Society Beveren, in the magazine Fundamenten:

"The public domain at the front (street) and at the rear (green space and public parking) will be connected via a covered passageway. The concept of the apartments is based on the design stragegy 'design for all'. This strategy takes into account the needs and wishes of people with different capabilities. It seeks to provide flexibility in use that makes life-long living possible. In the complex, the art project 'Satellite Building' was also integrated into the building's balustrades."

The project has already received a promising mention in the Dutch magazine 'De Architect' and was open during the 'Day of Architecture'.
